Bodie is the first Princess Parakeet that came to the group. Here is Mandy's introduction to the Budgie Research Group. Later she found out through the translations that Bodie's babbling was him speaking in extreme context.
My name is Mandy and I live in Canberra the nations capital, Australia.
I adopted a princess parrot in 2002 who's name is Bodie. I was unsure of
the sex and the people I adopted it from was not sure. When I adopted
Bo he had 3 whistles.
Since then we have come to the conclusion that bodie is a boy, as his
vocab has grown to, "good boy, who's the good boy" ahh good boy.. come
here, come here quickly, what are you doing, when our dog bothers him he
will tell her to "go away" if the dog keeps bothering bodie he has
called out "help me" (I was very surprised with this)
He also mimicks the phone buttons (from when we dial on speaker) also
he mimics the wild birds in our area and also talks budgie with tooty.
I have noticed bodie babbling on, I know he is in conversation but have
no idea what he is saying.
We also have a 12 week old budgie named Tooty. she hasn't begun talking
yet. She loves bodie chasing him around the floor. Bodie was quite
jealous of her at first but she is settling in nicely now.
Bodies Recordings
This was Bodies first recording and the one that demonstrated to Mandy and the group that he was talking in context. The interesting part about this was Many's sent an email to the group after the recording was captioned and said she would like to get some pointers from Bodie for translation. That is when Bodie came up with the next two recordings about translation tips.
In this remarkable recording Bodie coaches his guardian Mandy in a couple of tips on translation the recordings.
Mandys' budgie Tootie introduces the recording and Bodie continue to encourage Mandy in translating and explaining that it will take a while before she will understand what he is saying.
Mandy is on the phone talking about the possibility of being pregnant and Bodie is in the background making wise cracks about the same thing.
In this recording Mandy is talking to her sister on the phone and Bodies is making comments as she talks to her. Near the end I think Bodie rhymes off a telephone number.
